WUSTL acquires Walt Reed Illustration Archive

In 1974, Walt Reed opened the Illustration House. For decades, the New York gallery was the nation’s premier advocate for illustration art. Now, University Libraries has worked with Reed and his son, Roger, to acquire the Illustration House archives along with a substantial number of original artworks.

Olin Cup finalists offer diverse ideas

A mobile solution to the severity of epileptic seizures. Helmets designed to reduce concussions in high-impact sports. A locally sourced grain-to-glass spirits distillery. These are just a few ideas of the seven final teams, announced Nov. 7, vying for $70,000 in seed money to start a new company in this year’s Olin Cup, sponsored by the Skandalaris Center.

School of Medicine, VA ophthalmologist honored at White House

A WUSTL ophthalmologist was one of 31 finalists for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal. David E. Vollman, MD, and the other finalists recently were honored in a White House ceremony praising civil servants.

Nick Offerman of TV’s Parks and Recreation offers Edison crowd tips for a ‘prosperous life’

Nick Offerman, who plays Ron Swanson on the television show Parks and Recreation, offered students “tips for a prosperous life” during a free comedy show Nov. 10 at Edison Theatre. Tips included “Eat red meat” and “Go outside … remain there.” Student Union’s Social Programming Board hosted the show.
